About Us
The field of massage therapy is growing rapidly, both in demand for professional massage therapists and in the variety of employment opportunities. More and more people are seeking the therapeutic benefits of massage to relax, to relieve aches and pains and to help reduce stress. Research is increasingly documenting the significant health benefits of therapeutic massage-it is becoming a vital part of any holistic approach to health and well being.
At Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy (CCMT) we believe in the transformational power of massage therapy. We also believe that experiencing the life-enhancing effects of massage first hand, and having a deep awareness and understanding of what massage therapy is about, is the foundation for being able to help others through touch. Core to its mission, CCMT strives to provide comprehensive, professional training in a holistic context. We honor the synchrony of mind-body-heart as we support self-care and personal development.
CCMT has been dedicated exclusively to providing massage therapy training since 1980. CCMT has three campuses. The main campus is located in Newington and there is a branch in Westport and one in Groton. All three locations offer a part-time massage therapy program. In addition, Newington offers a full-time massage therapy program, Westport offers a clinical massage therapy program and Groton offers a spa massage therapy program. All campuses offer varied and flexible schedule options and financial aid is available to those who qualify.
We are devoted to providing quality educational programs, and have uncompromising standards when it comes to our curriculum, the faculty we hire, and the services we provide to our students, graduates and members of the greater massage therapy community. CCMT is accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a specialized accrediting agency for massage therapy and bodywork programs and institutions.
CCMT's comprehensive curriculum integrates technique, science and business with extensive hands-on practice. Our courses are academically challenging and professionally up-to-date with customized training manuals. CCMT provides students with many opportunities to gain hands-on experience. All students participate in student clinics, where they provide massage to members of the public in a supervised, clinical setting. Students in selected programs and campus locations can also participate in clinical education experiences in association with Hartford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, William W. Backus Hospital and The Spa at Norwich Inn. Selected CCMT courses have been assessed and approved for up to 40 college credits at Charter Oak State College.
Supportive guidance and resources are given with care throughout each student's journey. All campuses have fully-stocked libraries with books, professional journals and magazines, audio cassettes and computers with educational DVDs. Tutors, mentors, teaching assistants and study skills workshops are available; thorough preparation for professional practice and licensure is provided. In 2007, 94.7% of CCMT graduates passed the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) on the first take compared to the national average of 68.5%. We provide lifetime career resources for graduates including placement assistance, online massage therapist listings, job postings and business consultations.
We encourage massage school candidates to come in to CCMT for our complimentary Discovery Workshop where they will give and receive massage, experience our unique classroom settings and learn about our holistic training philosophy.
In addition to providing career training in massage therapy, CCMT offers education, products and services that enhance personal growth and professional development for massage therapists. To this end, CCMT provides continuing education courses to graduates and other bodywork professionals. CCMT is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork as a Continuing Education provider.
CCMT also owns Hands-On Supply, a retail and online order store located at the Newington campus. Catering to the academic needs of students, as well as the public and practicing massage therapists all over the country, the store stocks a wide selection of wellness products, books related to health and massage, an assortment of massage tables, massage chairs, oils, sheets, music, posters, hydrotherapy equipment, clothing, and many other massage supplies and accessories.
CCMT strives to broaden the awareness of the healing benefits and social values of touch through public education and outreach, events and workshops and by fostering the development of its graduates. Massage, provided at all CCMT campuses, is also available to the public.
CCMT aspires to...
